winter is melting

winter is finally coming to an end here on mt.hood. as we drive up the mountain, there becomes less and less snow on the sides of the roads. small signs of spring are breaking though the frost. the song birds are back, whistling and chirping outside of our windows, calling us out from under the warmth of our blankets, into the world. this was my first winter season spent away from the south, and i feel like it has changed me forever. i have a newfound respect for a world blanketed in white. i am going to miss all of the things associated with this weather: snow boots, slippery hikes, fireside cuddles, wool socks, chai tea lattes, indoor board games, & everything inbetween. i will forever cherish the memories made this past season, for they have taught me lessons to last a lifetime.

"thursday. january. the snow is thick. darkness drops quickly. the trees remain green and moist, and i am marveled by this. the ground is wet, always wet, unchanging. yet its beauty is boundless, just as they promised."
